Where To Insulate
Ceiling Insulation
Cathedral Ceilings and Garage Ceilings can be effectively insulated to provide comfort and energy efficiency!
Cathedral Ceilings over great rooms or other high sloped ceilings can be difficult to insulate as there isn’t the advantage of an attic to provide a barrier between occupied conditioned space and the outside. Spray Foam insulation can be applied directly to the underside of the cathedral ceiling if the area is unfinished.
If the ceiling already has sheetrock or other material covering the joists, we recommend that we drill access holes and install Dense Packed Owens Corning ProPink L77 Fiberglass or Green Fiber Cellulose insulation in most instances. We will then plug the holes with a wood plug, and apply one coat of compound. You would simply need to finish patching and to paint. Insulating cathedral ceilings with blown in fiberglass insulation is cost effective and energy efficient.

Garage Ceiling Insulation
Garage Ceilings are typically insulated with R-19 or less fiberglass. Often there is significant cold air infiltration from the garage (unconditioned space) to the room(s) above. For finished garage ceilings (typically sheetrock or plaster) we recommend that we drill access holes and install Dense Packed Owens Corning ProPink L77 Fiberglass or Green Fiber Cellulose Insulation in most instances. We will then plug the holes with a wood plug, and apply one coat of compound. You would simply need to finish patching and to paint.
If your garage ceiling is unfinished (the joists are exposed), Spray Foam insulation is the best choice to create an air barrier between the cold unconditioned air and your living space above it. We can apply open or closed cell spray foam insulation to your garage rafters to air seal and insulate, keeping the cold air from infiltrating the rooms above the garage ceiling.
